Can you keep a secret?
Can you run in high heels?
Are you tempted to break the rules?
Join Whitman Drama 23/24 for the SEASON OF SCANDAL as we explore debauchery, secret rendezvous, nefarious plots, and a dancing gorilla.
We open with A Flea in her Ear, one of the world's most famous farces, adapted by the hilarious and incisive David Ives from the original by Georges Feydeau. A wealthy socialite wrongly assumes her husband is cheating on her, and in an attempt to catch him in the act, stages a secret fake affair at the local hotel. Mistaken identities, narrow escapes, and over a hundred door slams will have you laughing til you burst your suspenders!
The Winter musical, Cabaret, by John Kander and Fred Ebb (Chicago) and Joe Masteroff pairs the jazzy music of the 1920s with the rise of Nationalist Germany pre-WWII. When a traveling bourgeois gentleman, Cliff Bradshaw, takes solace in the hedonistic cabaret house, the Kit Kat Club, he doesn't suspect falling for their headliner, the carefree Sally Bowles. As racism and bigotry are on the rise, Cabaret entices us with saucy looks and teaches us that the best way to confront adversity is to stand together and not ignore it. Through satire, humor, and heartbreak, we see Cliff and the emcee of the club speak truth to power while Sally troublingly insists "life is a cabaret."
